Mad skills create a mad wine. That much is evident with this Pinot. Truly exceptional stuff. The result of some serious hard slog and plenty of thought on how best to work with the weather of this particular harvest. Crack a bottle yourself and do some pondering *strokes chin and takes a very large sip*.

We can’t help but get around this Adelaide Hills winemaker. His small batch ethos? To make wines that’ll be “loved by some rather than liked by all”. Michael is a champion of super specific terroirs. A past life as a Sotheby’s jewellery evaluator serves him well as he meticulously observes wine subtleties. With his keen eye and passion for slow artisanal craft, he creates wines with big, distinctive personalities that won’t fade into bland anonymity. Someone get us a glass, stat!

FROM THE WINEMAKER

Wild yeast fermented in open fermenter and closed puncheons, 61% whole bunch, matured for 11 months in French oak (35% new). Unfined. Sandalwood, pomegranate, rosehip, fenugreek, shea butter.

FOOD MATCHING

Slap a bit of charcuterie on a platter and bob’s your uncle. Or, melt-in-your-mouth duck or lamb will also act as a shit hot flavour enhancer.

I recommend this product

Candidate for repeat, consistent quality, needs proper airing.

Cherries and grass - decent balance. With enough air, it does fan out well, with pockets of flavours and a spot of complexity.

Good

Other than a strong licorice nose (which I don’t personally like) when uncorked it is a strong performer as a Pinot down under, uncomplicated layering if ***** at right temp (16-18) and after a 45 min breathing.

Worth every penny

Very good pinot. A bit expensive so take it out for a special occasion and you won’t be disappointed. Smooth and easy to drink, with some distinctive character.
