A belter of a Barossa shiraz here. A real ace to have up your sleeve midweek. The mysterious name? Well, it comes from Michael’s time as a jeweller. The sang or ‘blood’ of the pigeon was only given to the reddest rubies in the biz. An energetic drop like this won’t fail to put a pep in your step. Plenty of juicy black fruit with a hint of black tea and dry, spicy tannins to finish. Deadset delicious. 

 

We can’t help but get around this Adelaide Hills winemaker. His small batch ethos? To make wines that’ll be “loved by some rather than liked by all”. Michael is a champion of super specific terroirs. A past life as a Sotheby’s jewellery evaluator serves him well as he meticulously observes wine subtleties. With his keen eye and passion for slow artisanal craft, he creates wines with big, distinctive personalities that won’t fade into bland anonymity. Someone get us a glass, stat!

"Hand-picked in Greenock and Stone Well, wild fermented in open fermenter and closed puncheons, 5% whole bunch, matured in French oak barrels for 21 months (10% new). Blended with 15% Flaxmans Valley and Adelaide Hills Shiraz."

Takeout menus at the ready! This cooler climate shiraz is a swell match for Asian cuisine. A Cantonese braised brisket or a wagyu beef beckons. Or, try a curry and let the fruitiness of this shiraz temper the heat.

if the 2018 vintage is anything to go by this is bound to be a cracker. The 2018 scored 96 Points, we are eagerly awaiting what this one comes out as.
